The launch of the new long-suffering Russian module for the International Space Station Nauka has again been postponed.
The “Science” module is a converted backup of the first module of the ISS “Zarya”, in 2004 it was decided to convert the module from backup to working in order to save on the creation of a new module. The launch was planned for 2007. Specialists were not able to complete the assembly of the device on time and for several years in a row the launch was delayed annually.
In 2013 after the module was transferred to Energia Corporation to install all the necessary internal equipment, after testing, violations of the fuel system were revealed, after which it was decided to send the module back for revision to the Khrunichev Center.
The reason for the current postponement of the launch was also the need to finalize the newly identified comments and a significant reduction in the staff who conduct the final tests of the module due to the current epidemiological situation in the world. The new launch date has not yet been announced; it is only known that it is planned for the beginning of 2021.
